One cause of the excessive bacterial release can be poor oral hygeine, thus it is very important for children with CHD to take good care of their teeth and gums. Good dental care is the best way to prevent Endocarditis from occurring. In addition, it may be recommended that antibiotics be taken prior to visits to the dentist. This will significantly decrease the risk of infection.

Note: Loss of baby teeth does not require any special dental care or medications.
